Job Description

QA/QC Piping & Welding Engineer will be responsible for designing, reviewing, and overseeing the fabrication, installation, and testing of piping systems and welded components for the projects in Majnoon. The role ensures that all piping layouts, materials, welding procedures, and workmanship comply with engineering standards, project specifications, and applicable codes such as ASME, API, and ASTM. The engineer supports construction teams, resolves technical issues, ensures proper welder qualifications and WPS/PQR compliance, and coordinates inspection and quality control activities, including NDT and pressure testing. The position plays a key role in ensuring safe, high‑quality, and efficient execution of piping and welding works throughout the project lifecycle.

Support and ensure all piping and welding activities follow HSE guidelines, including hot work permits and confined space requirements. Promote safety culture and compliance with site safety standards. Conduct toolbox talks, risk assessments (RA), and Job Safety Analyses (JSA) related to welding and fabrication.

QA/QC Piping & Welding Engineer to report to Site QA/QC Lead /Manager and has a reporting line to the Quality Assurance Discipline.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Develop and review piping design documents, including P&IDs, isometrics, GA drawings, and material specifications. Ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards such as ASME B31.3, ASME Section IX, API, ASTM, and project-specific requirements. Review and approve welding procedures (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Qualification Tests (WQT). Participate in design reviews (Model Reviews, HAZOP, Constructability Studies). Support creation of Bill of Materials (BOM) and verify piping material specifications. Monitor execution of field welding & NDT work activities in conformance with project drawings, specifications, quality requirements, procedures, safety standards Select appropriate welding processes (SMAW, GTAW, MIG/MAG, FCAW, SAW) and filler materials based on material type and service conditions. Evaluate metallurgical considerations, such as PWHT requirements, hardness limits, and HAZ properties. Review and resolve welding-related NCRs, deformities, and quality concerns (e.g., porosity, cracks, lack of fusion). Monitor and report quality KPIs related to welding productivity, NDT repair rates, and NCR trends. Ensure proper weld mapping, weld traceability, and documentation Monitor the clean build policy on site and make sure it is implemented on site Supervise site installation, prefabrication, and erection activities for piping and related components. Monitor and control weld production, fit-up quality, alignment, and dimensional accuracy. Review and endorse subcontractor quality plans, ITPs, and procedures piping and welding activities. Coordinate with NDT subcontractors for RT, UT, MT, PT, PMI, hardness testing, etc. Conduct root-cause analysis for welding failures and issue corrective actions. Ensure correct use of calibrated tools, welding machines, and consumables handling processes. Monitor welding consumable control including baking, drying, storage, and issue logs. Verify documentation for hydrostatic testing, leak testing, piping line check completion, punch clearance, and walk down prior to final system acceptance. Support procurement by reviewing technical offers for pipes, valves, fittings, gaskets, and welding consumables. Provide solutions for engineering queries (RFIs, technical deviations, design changes). Troubleshoot welding machine issues, repair strategies, and special weld considerations (e.g., dissimilar metals). Support field engineering teams with modification drawings and technical clarifications. Prepare, review, and control Quality Turnover Dossiers / MDR (Manufacturing Data Records) for piping systems. Participate in lessons learned sessions and contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives. Support pre‑commissioning and commissioning quality activities, including reinstatement, final acceptance, and system release certificates.

Skills and experience:

  • Minimum 10 years Quality Assurance and Quality Control experience within the oil and gas industry
  • Preferred CSWIP /AWS/ISO 9712 Level II certification.
  • Preferable PCN/ASNT MP, PT, RT, UT qualifications.
  • Good knowledge of international standards and all relevant local standards and laws
  • knowledge of ASME, API, AWS, ISO NDT-related codes.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Must be proactive and possess good inter personnel skills
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Proficient in English language

Educational experience:

  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical/Metallurgical /Welding Engineering
  • Professional Accreditation preferred
  • Successful completion of ISO 9001:2015 lead auditor training or transition course, preferred
