Our client is seeking an Outage Mechanical Supervisor (Valves) for a shutdown for a nuclear plant. Previous nuclear experience is non-negotiable.

The Mechanical Supervisor (AOV/MOV) will provide technical guidance, supervision, and leadership in the maintenance, inspection, and troubleshooting of Air Operated Valves (AOVs) and Motor Operated Valves (MOVs) within a nuclear power plant environment.

Duties & Responsibilities

The role involves planning, executing, and overseeing maintenance activities in accordance with regulatory standards, nuclear safety protocols, and plant operating procedures. The Mechanical Supervisor will ensure all work is performed safely, efficiently, and to the highest technical standards while supporting operational reliability, compliance, and continuous improvement.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and guide mechanical maintenance activities related to AOVs, MOVs, and associated systems.
  • Lead troubleshooting, inspection, and complex maintenance of mechanical components in accordance with manufacturer manuals and plant standards.
  • Provide technical expertise for the assessment and resolution of off-normal equipment conditions.
  • Manage preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs to enhance reliability and minimize downtime.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with plant design, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Plan, organize, and execute maintenance scopes of work to achieve schedule, performance, and productivity targets.
  • Guide and participate in complex troubleshooting and engineering evaluations to support safe plant operations.
  • Coordinate and supervise maintenance teams (EI&C) during planned shutdowns and commissioning activities.
  • Control and guide inspection and evaluation of assigned components during outages.
  • Oversee and review contractor-performed maintenance to ensure compliance with procedures and standards.
  • Provide input and revisions to maintenance and operational procedures to ensure accuracy and clarity.
  • Conduct toolbox talks, safety meetings, and pre-job briefs to promote safety and communication.
  • Ensure quality assurance compliance and resolve issues related to workmanship and maintenance standards.
  • Support outage planning, shutdown execution, and emergency response operations as required, including off-hour or shift support.
  • Prepare and deliver reports on maintenance performance, backlog prioritization, and component health.
  • Support training and competency development of maintenance staff and UAE Nationals.
  • Promote continuous improvement by identifying process enhancements, eliminating waste, and ensuring adherence to Nawah Fundamentals.
  • Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental policies and procedures.
  • Apply crisis management and business continuity principles when required.
  • Contribute to teamwork and collaboration between departments (Engineering, Operations, Maintenance).
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Nuclear Power Plant outage environment.
  • Minimum 5 years’ hands-on experience with AOV/MOV inspection, testing, and maintenance.
  • Experience working with mechanical maintenance tools, machinery, and calibration equipment (e.g., VOTES Infinity).
  • Familiarity with pneumatic, hydraulic, and electric valve actuation systems.
  • Experience in general mechanical maintenance of both primary and secondary side components.
Skills and Competencies:
  • Strong understanding of valve operations, nuclear power plant systems, and heavy lift operations.
  • Proficient in international maintenance standards and nuclear safety procedures.
  • Skilled in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, technical documents, and specifications.
  • Ability to make sound technical decisions and lead maintenance teams under pressure.
  • Strong coordination, planning, and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with multicultural team collaboration ability.
  • Familiar with project planning tools such as MS Project or Primavera.
  • Proven problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership, discipline, and organizational skills.
  • Certified in basic safety training (e.g., confined space entry, radiation exposure).
  • Permit-to-work holder or able to qualify as one under site standards.
