In support of achieving excellence and business results through safe, reliable operations, our Currently, Bruce Power is actively recruiting for Mechanical Maintainer Apprentices to join our team.

Mechanical Maintainers have the highest regard for safety, are responsible for maintaining systems needed to fuel and control nuclear reactors plus ancillary systems. Mechanical Maintenance duties such as commissioning, troubleshooting, repair and preventive maintenance of mechanical equipment in a nuclear generating station or related facility. The equipment includes: valves, pumps, compressors, heating refrigeration and air conditioning, turbines, generators, combustion engines and piping systems.

Successful candidates will be assigned to a specific work location onsite based on business needs and must be available to work various shift patterns (i.e. days, afternoons, nights).

This is a permanent, full-time position which offers a competitive benefits, compensation and pension package and is located on site in Tiverton, Ontario.

This is a FIRM 3 week posting.

More than 1 position may be available.

What will you be responsible for?

  • May be required to work from heights, in confined spaces, and in environments containing, respiratory radiological, chemical, electrical, and mechanical hazards

  • Maintain and repair items such as compressors, valves, motors, pumps, turbines, hydraulic systems and generators

  • Carry out quality predictive maintenance, preventive, corrective and breakdown maintenance, to ensure reliable system operation and ensure the equipment is in a good state of repair

  • Perform equipment surveillance as required. Perform post maintenance monitoring and testing of equipment.

  • Commission and decommission new equipment and systems and adjust, calibrate and inspect as per commissioning plans.

  • Provide feedback to technical staff regarding the condition of the equipment through dismantling, inspection and re-assembly in accordance with established procedures

  • This work may be performed on a twelve hour, rotating shift schedule

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Must be able to work in a radioactive environment, on rotating shifts, at heights, in confined spaces and hot/noisy areas

  • Ability to successfully complete Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities - Apprenticeship Branch training programs and Bruce Power specific training in order to obtain all relevant qualifications

  • Ability to perform tasks as a Millwright Apprentice

Education and Experience:

  • Successful completion of Grade 12 and received an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent (GED) as recognized by the Ontario Ministry of Education

  • Successful completion of a 2-year Diploma program from a College of Applied Arts and Technology in a mechanical discipline preferred

  • Experience in a mechanical field such as commissioning, troubleshooting, repair and preventive maintenance of mechanical equipment considered an asset

  • Experience with equipment such as valves, pumps, compressors, heating refrigeration and air conditioning, turbines, generators, combustion engines and piping systems considered an asset

  • Experience in a Millwright Apprenticeship or Pre-Apprenticeship program is considered an asset

Notes:

  • Training associated with the apprenticeship program will be provided by a recognized delivery agent and could be offsite

  • Successful candidates will be registered as apprentices with the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities - Apprenticeship Branch
