Job Description
UKAEAβs Year in Industry placements provide students with the opportunity to work on real engineering projects, gaining practical skills and industry knowledge before returning to university to complete their degree.
Learn from experienced engineers, supporting your academic studies while developing skills for your future engineering career.
Develop new technical and professional skills and gain valuable real-world engineering experience.
Gain insight into the wide range of engineering roles and projects across UKAEA.
Work on a variety of projects, with typical assessment durations ranging from two weeks to three months.
Contribute to projects supporting JET Decommissioning and Repurposing, MAST-U, and Fusion Futures.
Support design and equipment qualification activities within the Engineering Qualification team across UKAEA programmes.
Apply a range of analysis methods, including static, dynamic, thermal, structural, fluid, and electromagnetic analyses.
Use industry-standard simulation tools, including ANSYS and other specialist software.
Work on projects such as MAST-U upgrades, STEP fusion power plant concept design, and JET tokamak decommissioning.
Qualifications
Studying towards a degree in Science or Engineering
Confident with all Microsoft applications including Excel, Word and Powerpoint
Driven, with a strong appetite to learn and take on new challenges
Able to collaborate effectively and communicate clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
Well organised and adaptable with the ability to plan and prioritise workload

Final salary defined benefit scheme with an equivalent of 21.5% employer pension contribution
