The Site Services division is accountable for the management of our facility assets and currently has an opportunity for a Technical Officer who will be responsible for technical and operational support relevant to the geographic information system (GIS).

This is a permanent, full-time position which offers a competitive benefits, compensation and pension package and is located on site in Tiverton, Ontario.

What will you be responsible for?

  • On-going maintenance of ESRI ArcGIS Platform including ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Desktop Tools and Extensions, with coordination and support from IT as required.

  • Assist in establishing and executing the vision and strategy for GIS supporting Cos Facility Asset Management for Bruce Power.

  • Establish strong working relationships with project teams and utilize project documentation to capture and update the geometry and attribute values for maintaining facility asset information and maintaining construction island boundaries.

  • Prepare and distribute GIS data in printed and electronic formats including standard and customized maps.

  • Develop database queries and scripts of varying complexity or customization.

  • Provide support and generate reports from geographic databases.

  • Provide training, presentations and technical support to GIS users.

  • Provide technical evaluations and advice, solve problems and coordinate technical work as required, in a number of major work areas, in support of the commissioning, operation and maintenance of facilities.

  • Receive assignments from supervisor and identify potential problems and opportunities in assigned areas and/or systems in the facility.

  • Keep abreast of new developments in the field for use in incorporating in the department.

  • Participate in training programs to further own development and assists in the development of others.

  • On a periodic basis, supervise staff involved in the above activities by assigning and checking work and as required give instructions and direction.

  • Perform other duties as required.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with stakeholders regarding outdoor laydown areas and relocatable structures

  • Conduct regular inspections of outdoor laydown areas and relocatable structures

  • Collaborate with IT to configure servers and Geodatabases

  • Troubleshoot GIS-related issues in coordination with IT and external vendors

  • Design, implement, and manage Geodatabases

  • Support the implementation of the GIS strategic plan

  • Lead GIS platform upgrades and enhancements

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Expert knowledge of the ESRI ArcGIS platform, with proven skills in the following:

  • ArcGIS Enterprise (including Portal, Server, ArcGIS Online, ArcSDE)

  • ArcGIS desktop tools (ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro)

  • Extensions (Spatial Analyst, 3D Analyst)

  • Experience designing, building, publishing and managing web-GIS applications through the ESRI stack of products.

  • Experience managing web-GIS applications built on the Geocortex web-GIS platform.

  • Business analysis, use case development, project planning, client relations

  • Experience with high precision GPS data collection and processing, preferably with Trimble products.

  • Experience with Python and SQL programming.

  • Experience with SQL server.

  • Experience with Safe FME Workbench or the Interoperability Extension is preferred.

  • Experience with photogrammetry and softcopy steroplotter systems, (preferably DAT/EM Summit Professional) is preferred.

Education and Experience:

  • This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through the successful completion of an accredited four year university education in an appropriate engineering or science field or having the equivalent level of education.

  • A period of over 6 years and up to and including 8 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
