Job Description

As a Radiation Protection Engineer, you will join Derby team to support our activities within the Nuclear sector.

This is a great opportunity to apply advanced nuclear physics knowledge in a high-impact, regulated environment, working closely with multidisciplinary teams on reactor systems, shielding design, and compliance with nuclear safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform radiation transport analyses using Monte Carlo and deterministic methods
Develop and validate shielding designs for nuclear systems and facilities
Conduct dose rate calculations and radiation protection assessments
Support ALARA evaluations and regulatory compliance analyses
Perform neutron and gamma transport modeling for complex geometries
Execute skyshine, streaming, and activation analyses
Prepare technical reports and documentation for internal and regulatory review
Interface with multidisciplinary engineering teams

Qualifications

Required Skills:

Solid foundation in nuclear or radiation physics.
Experience in radiation shielding, protection, or transport modelling.
Hands-on experience with Monte Carlo simulation codes – ideally MCNP.
Exposure to Attila4MC or similar deterministic transport software (a bonus).
Familiarity with nuclear regulatory requirements and radiological safety standards.
Strong communication skills and ability to document technical findings clearly.

Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Physics, Nuclear Engineering, or equivalent military experience.

Desirable Skills:

Experience in nuclear, power generation, or other safety-critical industries
Shielding design and optimization
Radiation protection and dose assessment
Neutron and gamma transport theory
Source term development
Activation analysis
Regulatory and safety framework knowledge
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
