1. Fusion

Xcimer Energy leverages decades of research on Inertial Fusion Energy (IFE) combined with groundbreaking new laser architecture. Our mission is to deploy fusion power plants to meet global decarbonization goals as fast as possible. Xcimer has assembled a team of leaders in tough tech, fusion science, and manufacturing with a track record of rapid execution. Supported by leading investors, Xcimer is uniquely positioned to deliver limitless, clean, fusion power to combat climate change. Join us in powering a better world with inertial fusion!

As a Production Supervisor, you will own the safety, quality, and output of the wound film capacitor line at our Tucson, Arizona facility — the capacitors that store and deliver the energy behind Xcimer's pulsed-power laser drivers. We are looking for a production leader to apply their technical expertise, problem solving skills, and dedication to quality to positively impact the future of energy!

Responsibilities

Production Operations

  • Plan, organize, and direct daily manufacturing activities to the weekly build plan, and release work cards to the floor each week so the line always has kitted, sequenced work in front of it.

  • Execute structured daily management systems, including production tier meetings, visual controls, and escalation processes.

  • Ensure strict adherence to standard work, setup sheets, run parameters, and stage inspections as documented in Boltline work plans and work cards.

  • Maintain schedule attainment by resolving bottlenecks, managing priorities, and deploying labor effectively.

  • Sequence work around the line's long fixed-cycle operations. Vacuum drying and impregnation run a multi-day cycle across a limited number of tanks, so tank availability — not headcount — frequently sets weekly output; plan WIP to keep those tanks loaded.

  • Ensure all production records, logs, and sign-offs are completed accurately and on time in Boltline, against the correct work plan revision.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Lead, develop, and supervise production leads, machine operators, assemblers, and technicians.

  • Own the operator training matrix: qualify each operator against each process, keep training records current, and manage Boltline group membership so that only qualified people can sign off on a given operation.

  • Conduct regular coaching, feedback sessions, and performance evaluations.

  • Enforce attendance, time management, operating discipline, and performance standards.

  • Staff ahead of rate: forecast headcount against the production ramp, build the technician pipeline with Recruiting, interview, and onboard new hires.

Quality

  • Ensure all products meet company specifications and customer requirements through disciplined in-process controls.

  • Work closely with Quality Assurance to drive structured root cause analysis, defect containment, and root cause corrective action (RCCA) through to verified closure.

  • Lead weekly quality reviews to track trends, assign owners, and verify closure of issues.

  • Monitor scrap, rework, yield, and variability while reducing out-of-tolerance conditions.

  • Own the flow of electrical acceptance testing, including HiPot, and make the disposition call — accept, rework, or scrap — on units that fail, escalating to Quality and Engineering when a failure looks systemic rather than isolated.

Process Improvement and Standard Work

  • Convert tribal knowledge into documented, repeatable, and verified standard work and work instructions in Boltline.

  • Lead Lean Manufacturing initiatives focused on waste reduction, flow improvement, and productivity gains.

  • Reduce process variation through SPC, data analysis, and structured problem-solving methodologies.

  • Implement improvements with clear sustainment plans, including audits, training, and documented controls.

  • Support new product introductions and process development activities with Engineering and the Technology Development Program (TDP), while retaining accountability for production output.

  • Re-qualify affected operators and revalidate standard work on every manufacturing process change. No process change reaches the floor without updated work instructions, an updated training matrix, and documented sign-off.

  • Contribute to PFMEAs and JHAs for the processes you own, and close the production-side actions they generate.

  • Audit operator compliance with standard work, documentation, run sheets, and checklists.

Equipment and Maintenance

  • Enforce daily operator care routines and equipment checklists.

  • Ensure machines have documented setup parameters, maintenance requirements, and operating limits.

  • Partner with Maintenance to ensure timely preventive maintenance compliance, and keep spares on hand for the tooling that stops the line when it fails.

  • Support evaluations of new tools, machines, or automation opportunities with Production Engineering.

Safety

  • Maintain a safe and orderly working environment through structured daily safety walk-throughs.

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies.

  • Enforce proper use of PPE, lockout-tagout procedures, machine guarding, and material handling practices, including the controls for high-voltage test areas, solvents, oils, and resins.

  • Lead safety incident investigations and track RCCA to closure.

  • Sustain 5S standards to improve safety, organization, and equipment reliability.

Materials and Inventory

  • Coordinate material availability and readiness with Purchasing and Inventory Control.

  • Enforce accurate material issuance, traceability, labeling, and lot control procedures.

  • Monitor WIP levels to maintain flow while minimizing shortages and excess inventory.

  • Ensure proper material handling, storage conditions, and FIFO discipline, with particular attention to dielectric film and foil — the long-lead, condition-sensitive inputs on this line — including shelf-life and humidity control.

Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Business, or related field preferred; equivalent experience acceptable.

  • Experience: 5+ years of progressive manufacturing leadership experience, including at least two years directly supervising hourly production employees.

  • Experience in electronics, capacitors, or precision manufacturing preferred.

  • Strong foundation in Lean Manufacturing, structured problem solving, and continuous improvement.

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, including the ability to write a clear work instruction.

  • Ability to analyze data, interpret trends, and solve complex production problems.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and with a manufacturing execution system (MES) or ERP. Xcimer runs Boltline; training will be provided.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

  • Must be able to satisfy Xcimer's pre-employment background check.

Desired

Experience with one or more of the following is highly desirable:

  • Film and foil capacitor manufacturing

  • High-voltage capacitor production

  • Winding operations

  • Vacuum drying and impregnation processes

  • Electrical testing

  • Statistical Process Control (SPC)

  • ISO 9001 quality systems

  • Root cause analysis and corrective action methodologies

  • Metallization by twin-wire arc or flame spray, and swaging

  • Resin potting or oil-filled capacitor assembly

  • Pulsed power, high-energy-density, or Marx generator applications

  • Standing up a new production line, or scaling one from pilot build to rate, including building an operator qualification program from scratch

  • A modern cloud MES such as Boltline
