Summary:

As a Project Safety Engineer, you will develop and maintain the Safety Cases for Project System Business to ensure the design and implementation at site is single fault tolerant and meets the Genset System functional hazard rates and all applicable certification requirements. You will be responsible for providing technical guidance, counsel, and direction to project team engineers to ensure technical outcomes are delivered to appropriate standards and quality. You will be responsible for the management of product safety in a project, from the concept phase to the end of the project and has operational tasks in the process.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to travel up to 20%.

What you will be doing:

  • Collaborate with other teams and customers to select, define, apply, and moderate suitable methods (investigation of hazards, Hazard and Risk Analysis, determination of necessary risk reduction, FMEA, fault tree analysis, suitability analysis, etc.).
  • Work with a cross-functional team to establish the highest standards of technical capability, quality, professionalism, and teamwork.
  • Provide and support engineering and process guidance, training and create documentation.
  • Prepare and review engineering work products for technical documentation, quality, completeness.
  • Resolve complex problems through the application of acquired technical experience and knowledge.
  • Develop and communicate complex technical ideas and information in a concise and logical way.
  • Creates and maintains the project/order-specific safety plan based on the safety life cycle with application-specific enhancements and/or tailoring.
  • Plans and executes the assessment in all phases of the safety life cycle, taking the required level of independence into account.
  • Is responsible for Safety Management Plan (SMP) and execution.
  • Defines documentation structure and requirements on document quality.
  • Specifies requirements pertaining to safety functions and their integrity.
  • Tracks actions and, if necessary, triggers a return to a suitable point in the product life cycle and safety life cycle in the case of changes.
  • Assesses the personnel resources used with regards to appropriate competence.
  • Defines safety specifications for the use, integration, operation, and maintenance as well as decommissioning and disposal of the scope of delivery (customer documentation, customer training).
  • Acts as an interface with approval authorities and safety monitoring bodies.
  • Integrates suppliers and service providers into the product safety management system.
  • Provides project coaching on all product safety topics.
  • Prepares safety reports.
  • Communicates the safety strategy within the project organization ("culture of safe working").
  • Has an interface function with regards to functional safety officers of the customer and supplier.
  • Executes, commissions, and evaluates reviews and audits on product safety in the project.
  • Keeps proof of safety records for the project.
  • Takes part in the preparation of declarations of incorporation if the EC Machinery Directive is applied.
  • Helps to improve and further develop the product safety concept.
  • Regularly prepares reports and, if necessary, escalates issues to the project manager, strategic product safety management and – if available – to the project safety coordinator.
  • Selects aids and tools to use in the development of safety-related products.
  • Cooperates in the qualification of development environments.
  • Ensures conformity of project/order-specific product safety management with the organization wide safety life cycle.
  • Escalates in case of deviations from the organization-wide safety life cycle and the infringement of the strategy for product safety in the project.
  • Escalates in the case of product safety risks which cannot be tolerated.
  • Applies the safety life cycle in the project, including activities to carry out and work products to be created.
  • Takes measures for avoiding and overcoming systematic and occasional errors.
  • Releases next safety life cycle phase.
  • Approves or rejects change requirements with an impact on product safety.
  • Takes correction measures for fulfilling the safety life cycle in the project.
  • Right to report on strategic product safety management and product safety coordinator. Skills, knowledge, and constraints.

Tendering Matters:

  • Work closely with the regional team to define the technical scope.
  • Review/clarify customer’s specifications & tender documents.
  • Review and finalize the C/D/E document together with the regional application engineering team.
  • Provide the technical specifications and define the scope of supply for the equipment.
  • Coordinate with factory and local suppliers to harmonize the scope of supply.

Solution Engineering Matters:

  • Ensure all electrical designs and installations comply with relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Define the electrical systems requirements for the walk in genset enclosures suitable for the project needs.
  • Support the execution team to resolve technical issue related to the Electrical systems during project execution, from packaging to site related.
  • Participate in design review and lessons learnt sessions. Proactively provide valuable insights and recommendation to enhance system performance and efficiency.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with 5+ years of product development engineering experience in Genset, Alternator, Electrical Panels (Switchgear, Transformer, NGR, GCB, EPMS, Busduct, Cables, Controls).
  • Safety Management System Knowledge and Experience.
  • Added Advantage- Safexpert Tool and PTC Integrity -RV&S9.

Preferred Requirements:

  • 5+ years of product safety engineering experience.
  • Application of agile development methods to deliver engineering work products.
  • Familiarity with the following standards: ISO-8528, CPCB Norms, OSHA, OSH Code 2020.
  • Decision-making competence.
  • Extensive knowledge of the legal framework of safety provisions and the relevant product safety standards.
  • Experience of the most important safety analysis techniques.
  • Power of persuasion.
  • Detailed knowledge of the safety life cycle.
  • Detailed knowledge of the order handling and/or development processes.
  • Knowledge of the application area.
  • Extensive knowledge about the system to be delivered and the system context.
  • Knowledge of the effects of the failure of the safety-related systems.
  • Solid understanding of automation system, electrical system, protection system of a diesel generator set and demonstrate the ability to integrate the understanding into designing a genset enclosure.
