Duties & Responsibilities

  • Welcome, identify, and assess patients according to hospital and HPCSA protocols.

  • Explain procedures clearly, address patient concerns, and obtain informed consent.

  • Prepare patients for examinations, including verifying clinical history, contraindications, and pregnancy status.

  • Receive, prepare, and handle radiopharmaceuticals in compliance with radiation protection and good pharmacy practice standards.

  • Administer radiopharmaceuticals via appropriate routes (e.g., IV, oral, inhalation) while monitoring for adverse reactions.

  • Maintain strict adherence to aseptic techniques and dosing accuracy

  • Position patients correctly and operate imaging equipment to acquire high-quality diagnostic images.

  • Apply appropriate imaging protocols according to departmental, manufacturer, and clinical guidelines.

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Bachelor of Nuclear Medicine Technology (BNMT)
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist / Radiographer: Nuclear Medicine
  • 1–3 years of post-qualification experience
  • Community Service completion
  • Performing a variety of Nuclear Medicine diagnostic procedures (planar, SPECT, SPECT/CT, PET/CT).

  • Preparing and administering radiopharmaceuticals.

  • IV cannulation and handling of nuclear medicine injections.

  • Operating gamma cameras, PET/CT systems, dose calibrators, and quality control equipment.

  • Applying radiation protection principles and complying with Department of Health / Radiation Control requirements.

  • Quality control procedures for imaging equipment and radioactive materials.
