Currently, our Outage division has a Cost & Scheduling Technician opportunity. The Outage division is accountable for the preparation of forced and planned outage schedules in order to meet the goals and objectives of our preventative maintenance program and life-cycle management plan.


Assist in the preparation of schedules and cost reports in support of operating, engineering, outage and project work. Assist in the production cost flowed, resource-leveled schedules. Monitor and update schedules, as required. Maintain records on work requests, using manual and/or computerized system. Utilize computer capabilities for work and cost management systems to produce reports, etc, Assist in preparation and maintenance of cost and schedule estimates required for capital and OM&A project work.

This is a permanent, full-time position which offers a competitive benefits, compensation and pension package and is located on site in Tiverton, Ontario.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the production of cost flowed, resource leveled schedules for work groups in accordance with Corporate and Bruce Power Nuclear (OHN) health and safety procedures and practices.

  • Prepare daily work programs for all plant conditions, as well as long terms plans and work programs used for commissioning, operation, maintenance, modification and installation of plant equipment and facilities.

  • Prepare commissioning, operating, maintenance and rehabilitation schedules in accordance with assignment outline provided, and based on the review and analysis of various data, established maintenance, operating and or commissioning and project management procedures, availability of resources such as personnel and materials and within the limits of established priorities and conditions.

  • Obtain pertinent technical data as well as time commitments from appropriate work units. As directed, collaborate with technical, trades, production staff and others in establishing a logical work sequence and appropriate resource allocation.

  • Amalgamate all the data gathered into a logical work sequence and submit for supervisory approval.

  • Using computerized, as well as manual systems, translate approved work sequences into schedules, resources and cost forecasts, and work programs.

  • Compare final proposals with schedules and work programs developed for past similar circumstances, or established procedure(s), as a check to substantiate logic of proposed schedules or work program.

  • Set up work events and cost accounts within computerized cost and budget system. Submit proposed schedule or work program for line management review and approval.

  • Monitor progress of schedules and work programs, as assigned, through the review of logs, work reports, work requests (W/R's), cost and resource reports.

  • Obtain pertinent information from personnel through participation in planning meetings, day-to-day discussions, or through computerized work management systems. Be required to identify scheduling problems, such as under- or over-use of resources, and inform line management.

  • Analyze data, using computerized, as well as manual systems. As directed, make recommendations to change and/or improve upon the scheduling process, and submit for line management review and approval.

  • Assist in the preparation of cost and schedule estimates for capital and OM&A projects identified on Plan schedules. Obtain estimating and scheduling assumptions from Manager or designated source, gather balance of information, and develop estimates and schedules, using selected computerized models. Factor changes into required revisions as received from workgroups. Forward work to Manager and appropriate engineer for review and approval.

Education and Experience:

  • This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired in and equivalent to a Grade XII education in a secondary school plus intermediate related course.

  • Requires knowledge of technical subjects (such as, electricity/electronics, mechanics, instrumentation, heat, and thermodynamics) at a level sufficient to understand rates and operating work methods, procedures, materials, and equipment, and as a base for comprehending technical and planning (estimating, scheduling) subjects.

  • Requires knowledge of drafting to read and interpret drawings and specifications.

  • Requires an understanding of project management techniques, including cost accounting, priority-setting, action tracking, and related systems, software, and applications.

  • Requires knowledge of math necessary to perform calculations. Requires knowledge of technical report writing. Requires knowledge of English to communicate effectively with others.

  • A period of over four and up to including six years is considered necessary to gain this experience.

  • Requires experience in a technical, trade or operating setting, to understand business systems, operating practices, maintenance, and modification procedures, and to gain an appreciation of equipment and tool characteristics.

  • Proficiency in Primavera Scheduling Software (P6) is an asset.

  • Requires experiences in work methods and work sequences to assist in preparation of logical work packages.

  • Requires familiarity with conventional and radiological safety procedures, equipment, material, and labour requirements associated with maintenance, modification, and outage programs.

  • Requires experience in the operation of computerized data systems to prepare plans, schedules, and work programs.

  • Requires experience to become familiar with interrelationships between various work groups, sources of data, key contacts, and the like.
