Currently, our Equipment performance division has a Civil Maintainer I – Building Mechanic opportunity. The Equipment Performance division at Bruce Power focuses on maintaining and improving the performance of equipment through various initiatives and oversight.

The Civil Maintainer I is accountable for maintaining, renovating, and erecting buildings or similar structures. It includes fabricating or repairing items made of wood, sheet metal, masonry, and pipes, as well as designing, erecting, and dismantling various types of scaffolds. The role requires proficiency in operating and using power tools, equipment, and hand tools related to building trades. Additionally, it involves understanding rigging procedures, equipment, and craning techniques, as well as tools and equipment associated with scaffolding.

This is a permanent, full-time position which offers a competitive benefits, compensation and pension package and is located on site in Tiverton, Ontario.

What will you be responsible for?

• Perform concrete forming and finishing tasks.
• Carry out general carpentry work, including door installation, repair, and hardware fitting.
• Conduct maintenance and repair of building structures and systems.
• Understand and apply knowledge of building materials and construction techniques.
• Carry out good housekeeping and fire prevention practices in the performance of the work.
• Complete hazard identification and safe job planning prior to executing work.
• May be required to work from heights, in confined spaces, in environments containing respiratory, radiological, chemical, electrical, and mechanical hazards.
• This work may be performed on a twelve-hour, rotating shift schedule.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills

• Safety focused mindset.
• Understands, operates, and uses power tools, equipment, and hand tools related to the building trades.
• Knowledge of concrete forming and finishing techniques.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and oral instructions.
• Working knowledge of station housekeeping and material storage standards.
• Demonstrated working knowledge of the strength of materials used in construction and their properties.
• Familiar with rigging techniques and has an understanding of the use of various types of hoisting devices.
• Candidates must be capable and willing, to successfully complete all training requirements of the position including, nuclear "Yellow/Green" qualification in radiation protection.
• Candidates must qualify as a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW).
• Candidates must be able to work in a radioactive environment, at heights, in confined spaces and hot/noisy areas.
• Able to demonstrate that the individual values the role and is committed to it.

Education and Experience

• Candidates require an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent as recognized by the Ontario Ministry of Education.
• Candidates must hold a valid Certificate of Qualification (C of Q) as a Carpenter or equivalent experience.
• Experience in concrete forming and finishing.
• Experience in general carpentry, including door installation, repair, and hardware fitting.
• Considered an asset:
  • Holding more than one Certificate and/or experience in any of the following trades: carpentry, plastering, bricklaying, masonry, painting, plumbing, tinsmithing, insulating, roofing, concreting, and all types of scaffolding.
  • Work experience in a Power Generation Facility and/or previous industrial construction experience.
